A familiar reference.
Wherever your day takes you.
Lineium publishes Worldwide Currency Converter for Android and the online converter at lineium.com. We build currency reference tools and practical guides for understanding prices across borders.
Where do the website rates come from?
The two homepage converters use the ExchangeRate-API open access dataset. This endpoint updates once daily. Both converters use the same downloaded response so their calculations share the same data.
The displayed timestamp comes from the provider’s update field. It identifies the data update, not the time you entered an amount. Refreshing the webpage does not make a daily dataset update more often. Read the provider’s documentation.
How are conversions calculated?
For an amount A, starting currency F, and destination currency T, the website calculates A × rate(T) ÷ rate(F), using rates quoted against the same base currency. This is equivalent to multiplying the starting amount by destination units per starting unit.
Displayed results are rounded for readability. They are reference calculations, not offers to exchange money. A bank, card issuer, cash exchange, or transfer service may use other rates and add fees. The European Central Bank also distinguishes informational reference rates from transaction rates; it is a reference for that distinction, not the data source for Lineium’s website.
What does offline conversion mean?
The Android app supports calculations using previously downloaded rates. A new amount can be calculated without a connection, but fresh rate data cannot be downloaded offline. Reconnect when an updated reference matters.
The website requires a connection to retrieve its rates. The Android app and the website are different products; the website’s daily endpoint does not establish the app’s provider plan or refresh schedule. Prepare the app for offline use.
How are the guides prepared?
Guides are published by Lineium. Worked examples are explicitly fictional unless another source is identified. We link to primary sources beside provider specific explanations and update guides when their instructions or references change.
Card illustrations and promotional artwork are visual aids. They are not evidence of an app screen or a live exchange rate. Questions about a payment should be checked against the actual transaction record and provider terms.
