1. Sort by currency
Keep different currencies in separate piles. Read the currency names or codes rather than grouping everything with a similar symbol together.
For each currency, multiply the number of notes or coins by their face value, then add the amounts. Two 20 EUR notes, one 5 EUR note, and three 1 EUR coins total 48 EUR.
2. Convert each total separately
Open the Lineium converter. Put the cash currency in From and your home currency in To. Enter that pile’s total.
At a fictional rate of 1 EUR = 1.20 USD, 48 EUR has a reference value of 57.60 USD. This example doesn’t represent a current rate or a promise of what you’ll receive.
If you also have pounds or another currency, repeat with that currency selected in From. Keep your home currency as the common result currency.
3. Add only the converted results
Imagine a second pile converts to 25 USD at your chosen reference rates. You can add 57.60 USD and 25 USD to estimate 82.60 USD in total.
You can’t add 48 EUR directly to a pile counted in GBP and call the result a dollar total. Convert first so every amount uses the same unit.
4. Check the actual exchange offer
If you plan to exchange the cash, ask the provider what it accepts and what amount it will pay after its rate and fees. Check notes and coins separately rather than assuming both are accepted.
The converter helps you understand a reference value. It doesn’t arrange a cash exchange, guarantee acceptance, or determine the provider’s payout.
Keep a note of your counts and conversion date. If you return to the estimate later, refresh the rates before treating it as current.
